Published: February 1st, 2008 As a DJ who's been part of crews spanning the Northwest to the East, "The World's Freshest", DJ Fresh, is challenging the role of others in his line of work with his drive and creativity. Part time producer, part time DJ, full time hustler, DJ Fresh was named one of the most respect DJs in Scratch Magazine, and also touts the official role of Nas and Common's official DJ. Currently, DJ Fresh is on tour with the Living Legends and has many more tricks up his sleeve, so stay tuned.
Baycentrik: How did you start off The Tonite Show Series? Alot of DJs tend to just blend songs with other instrumentals or just put out random mix cds. Explain how Tonite Show is different from most other CDs in the market.
DJ Fresh: I started off "The Tonite Show" series with Mistah FAB. I love doin beats and I had hella beats. I make beats at a DJ's pace that would normally do there mixtapes, only instead I do orignal beats. Instead of me jackin' a Jay-Z instrumental and goin to go get the newest dope rapper to bust on it, I was like I'mma' have em bust on my beats. And that's how I been doin' it.
Baycentrik: You are the official DJ for Nas and Common, how did you get that title?
DJ Fresh: Yeah I'm one of Nas' DJs along with of course L.E.S. and he got another DJ named Grandmaster Vic. I did the Stillmatic and God's Son tour. I was scheduled to do the recent Rock The Bells tour with em' as well but due to him not having that many dates on the tour it didn't crack. But I communicate with em, send him beats and all that. My brother DJ Dummy is Common's main DJ. Common was like the first major artist I got to perform on stage with since I was around 16. I got the gigs by the grace of God, being in the right time at the right place and networking. My brother had a DJ group called 12 Inch Assassins based out of New York. It was DJ Dummy, DJ-LS 1, DJ Rukas, DJ Chaps and me DJ Fresh and there were others as well but those were who I dealt with the closest. Rukas was Freddie Foxx's DJ who was close to Nas and he was looking for a DJ and they told 'em about me.
Baycentrik: So you're also a producer, who are some of the main artist you lace with beats?
DJ Fresh: Mistah FAB, Smigg Dirtee, the whole Livewire Camp, Living Legends, Beeda Weeda, Hiero, Everybody. The email thing is crazy.
Baycentrik: What upcoming projects do you have in the works?
DJ Fresh: The Tonite Show DVD/Soundtrack edited by me and then scored by my production team The Whole Shabang which is 10AK, Jamon Dru, Mr.Tower, Sneaky Mike, Mike Rimzo, Young Gully, and then Thoroflix, he's our photgrapher. I also have The Tonite Show With Shady Nate & Jay Jonah coming, The Real World West Oakland Part 2 with J Stalin and introducing Mayback, Lil Blood - Heroin Music too. But out now as of recently I got The Tonite Show With Mistah FAB Part 2, The Tonite Show with Mr.Tower, and Based On A True Story with Shady Nate. They're all on ITunes.
Baycentrik: So you recently pitched the idea to collaborate on a project with us, The Tonite Show with Baycentrik produced entirely by DJ Fresh and The Whole Shabang. What do you have in store for the people with this one?
DJ Fresh: The Tonite Show Baycentrik is gonna be dope. Thats all I can say cuz I don't know exactly what it's gone be, that's why my name is the worlds freshest. I'mma just come with something fresh to the table for the people like I always try to do so just tune in. Peace. Dj Fresh, The Whole Shabang of the 5 families. 100.
